Sustainability/Facilities - Annual Report Intern

Job Responsibilities: 

The Office of Sustainability at Scripps College is looking for a student intern interested in collecting, analyzing, and designing content for the 2025-26 Annual Sustainability Report. This intern will work closely with and directly report to the Sustainability Coordinator, Abby Balais. By the end of the project, you will have contributed to the creating of a compelling sustainability report, while gaining valuable, resume-enhancing experience in data analysis, graphic design, and communications. 

 

General Responsibilities (All collaborative and with the support of the Sustainability Coordinator) 

  • Data Collection and Analysis: Gather, organize, and analyze sustainability-related data from various campus departments and initiatives 
  • Report Building & Data Visualization: Collaborate with Annual Report Team to design visual elements for the report, including infographics, charts, and layout formatting primarily through PowerBI, but also tools like Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or similar platforms. 
  • Content Development: Collaborate with Annual Report Team to write and edit report sections, including summaries of sustainability programs, achievements, and goals. Can also include current best practices, best next steps, and recommendations. 
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with campus departments, student organizations, and sustainability staff to gather input and verify information. 
  • Project Management Assistance: Help track progress, meet deadlines, and maintain documentation throughout the report development process 
  • Research and Benchmarking: Conduct Research on Sustainability best practices and compare campus efforts with peer institutions (i.e. the 5Cs)

 

Operational & Administrative 

  • Ensure timesheets are submitted on time for approval 
  • Attend check-in meetings on a weekly/bi-weekly basis as determined by your Supervisor 
  • Maintains accurate records as directed by your Supervisor 
  • Meets all administrative deadlines as directed by your Supervisor 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled as a Scripps Student for the entirety of 2025-26 Academic Year 
  • Must have experience with organizing/analyzing spreadsheet data in Excel
  • Familiarity with graphic design 
  • The idea of finding patterns within the sustainability data, and communicating those statistics in a visually compelling way, excites you 
  • You are detail-oriented, curious, creative, and motivated to problem-solve
  • You are an effective collaborator that will proactively communicate with your supervisor

Desired, but not required, Qualifications 

  • Experience with graphic design software (Adobe Illustrator/ Photoshop/Canva) 
  • Experience with data visualization software (Microsoft Power BI/Tableau, ArcGIS)

 

Hours: 10-12/wk 

Hourly Rate: $16.90
